I got a Clary Woodmute adjustable cup mute for Christmas and I have to report that it is incredible. I got the "Bobby K" with both cups. It is resonant, responsive, dynamic, and clear. These mutes are beautiful and well made. I hope to purchase more in the future.

I have been a big fan of Clary mutes since I tried one and bought the cup mute several years ago. The workmanship is fantastic, they sound terrific, and they are beautiful just to look at. I recently tried their solotone mute. It's the best sounding and most in tune solotone I have ever played. |

I got a set over a two year period of the straight, cup, bucket, and solo tone mutes. The straight, cup, and bucket are my go to for those mute requirements. The solo tone plays easier (blow and tuning) than the EMO solo tone but the EMO has more of the solo tone timbre (that old recorder player trumpet color) so that one depends on which one I like for different settings.
I had asked him before covid times if he would venture to a piccolo trumpet straight but I don't know if that ever came to fruition. |

I got the cup because that one is most useful to me and, I think, benefits most from the acoustic properties of the wood. I think the bucket is next on my list but I'm so fascinated by the bourbon barrel straight mute that I might go that way. I have more straights than any other style of mute and I only have the H&B bucket so there's that balance as well... So much gear... _________________ Kevin |
