I'm with you there John, but be prepared. I got spanked pretty good a few months ago for suggesting the same thing in another thread.

I have used a C trumpet (Bach 238 HG) for years with our local Community Band. I do it for the challenge of blending and matching pitch. I also get a kick out of challenging my transposition skills in unusual keys.
It also works very well with solo parts.

yeah even tho you might like it, it depends on what the section is using..Preferrable everyone should be using the same key horn, except if noted otherwise |

I don't care what the rest of the section is playing. If I like it on a C rotary, I'm going to play it on a C rotary as long as it sounds good and is in tune. Same goes if I want to play a Bb part on an F tpt or an Eb cornet. Nobody should be able to tell a difference.

Well yeah if it sounds great and in tune go right ahead..But most of the time you can tell the difference between Bb and C, so uniformity would be the best route. |

You ought to hear some of the guys in my section. They'll be playing a Bb but the sound is so bright it sounds like a high G trumpet! Then there's me on my C horn playing right along sounding like I'm on some monster of a horn, then they give me crap because I'm on a C. "This isn't an orchestra Johnny-Jigglespoon, get with the program." My response, "ok, while y'all are struggling with the fingerings of that lick in A major, I'll be playing circles around you in G maj. Better yet, lemme pull out my D horn so it'll be in F maj. What do y'all like better, 3 sharps or 1 flat??" End heckling from them.
