Today is Gustav Mahler's birthday. 7-7-1860 to 5-18-1911.
Back when I was younger, we would celebrate this day with a non-stop listening to all of Mahler's symphonies. I'm too old for that now.
Listen to some Mahler today!!
edit - changed the title of the post to not be year-specific

And after that, you can go listen to some Doc Severinsen. Today is his 80th birthday. _________________ Kevin Peterson

usually on mahler's birthday i climb a mountain and eat freshly killed mountain goat roasted over a fire fueled by CD's and baby limbs. But i had work that day this year. _________________ -GET OVER HERE!

Check the date of the post. It was written back in 2007. The concert was at Ravinia on July 6 last year -- I was there too. Darn it, didn't even remember that it was Mahler's birthday the day after.
And speaking of mountains, there is a peak near Rocky Mountain National Park named Mount Mahler (after the composer/conductor, no kidding):

In any case, Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Mahler and Doc. I guess I will do some belated celebration at Tanglewood this weekend, where the BSO will perform Mahler 2 (Bernard Haitink conducting).
