The story:
I was shedding Luis Bonfa's "The Gentle Rain" on piano, and then for an added challenge as I got comfortable in different keys, I decided to work on it in 7 (12+12+123). Then I wanted to add horn, so I recorded the piano part (supportively), and added horn, all the while organizing my thinking in 7/8 time. After listening to it, I realized that the collective performance sounds like 7/8 if you hear it as "straight", and 5/4 (big 5) if you hear it as "swung". It's a musical/aural illusion! I hope y'all enjoy it:

Intriguing idea. I couldn't hear the piano well enough to hear the superimposition of the rhythms well. Also, because the piano was under recorded, for me, I couldn't hear well how your pitch choices related to the underlying harmonies. One of the things I love about his music is his use of the melody notes within the context of the harmony. I didn't hear that here. (I'm not saying they weren't there, I just didn't hear.)
FYI, I'm familiar and comfortable with different rhythms being superimposed on one another, so my observations are not a negative reaction to them, per se.
Also, and I realize the background is pre-recorded but, particularly in this setting, I would have really enjoyed hearing an interplay of all participants.
I would love to hear another recording with a live group if you do one in the future. This is the kind of creative ides I love to listen to. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I feel you--yeah, this was just done on my cell phone, so the horn overpowered the piano. I'll try to record it all through my DAW so I can mix it properly. Will def post again if I put something else together (live or solo) with some odd meters!

And thank you, Dayton! Happy to share and explain. _________________ --
