Thoughts on the CAPRI by GETZEN. I find it to be a pretty descent horn with good valve action, what would you consider a "good price" for this horn just curious.

Do you get extra points for punctuation?

Getzen Capri and specially the older ones are very solid horns, I have one for my son , he studies trumpet seven years and the horn serves him great .
I have pay for this horn in used but mint condition €500.

Depends on several factors. Silver finish adds a lot more appeal, especially if you take the time to polish if up. Case condition is important for a horn that will be used by a student or anyone who may need a case, but most "pros" in my experience are not usually interested in another case in the closet, and those old Getzen cases are heavy and expensive to ship. Rather than just claiming the valves and slides are good, take detailed shots showing cleanliness and free slides, good pistons.

Honestly, the sellers' credibility adds about 3/4 of the value of a horn, IMHO. And that is with a PayPal buyer warantee.

Finally, the biggest factor on price for my opinion is whether I am buying or selling!

I just grabbed a lacquer specimen exactly as you described ... it even SMELLED new, for $150. Now that was a great price! True story.

I hate to be a wise a$$, well, actually I embrace it, but the point of my response is that you can readily get a good idea of the market either by going to your local music store or doing a bit of eBay research, using their sold item search. The Capri is a highly regarded "better than beginner" instrument in this community, it seems.

I will always offer to top Home Billy's best offer, if I can just figure out how to get PayPal's satisfaction guarantee using the international Peeps Transaction Standard.

In response to the OP--

I have a Getzen Capri cornet that is over 50 years old. I bought it off of eBay for 250 bucks plus shipping in 2019. Pretty sure I got a steal on it because the nickel silver slides are in mint condition with no tarnish; there is some lacquer wear around the valve casing and a few small scratches, and evidence of a small dent repair in the bell bow, but it came to me clean as a whistle, apparently very low mileage. The valves are downright amazing and it plays beautifully.

I've seen newer (say 10-20 years old) Capri trumpets and cornets going used on eBay for between $500 and $1000. Dependng on the age of the horn, I think $1000 for a used Capri is probably a little high. IMHO a used Capri trumpet in good condition and less than ten or twelve years old should go between $400 and $700. There's one on eBay right now with the seller asking for $600 but it's missing a valve cap and looks like someone used it for a catcher's mitt. Don't buy that one.

Hard to know what a good price might be, as there are so many from so long ago to now...

I purchased a Capri cornet for $250 - think it was about 25 years old when I got it, but was in lovely condition. Used it as my beater cornet (for marching) for five years and sold it pretty much in the same condition for $500...which was a nice win.

For a second hand one I wouldn't be paying much more than $700 for a really good one, but that's coming from a pre-COVID mindset on what horns are worth.

Cheers,
Roger

In February, 1977, I purchased a Getzen Capri in silver with first valve trigger. It was my horn for the next 4 years. It cost $235 and my old well beaten Bundy student trumpet (a $75 wonder). I sold the Getzen in March, 1981 for $350 used (got my first Bach Stradivarius for Christmas, 1980). The new owner promptly dropped it off the bleachers at a home football game, destroying the bell.

I still wish I had that horn...
