I have a new Adams F1. I've always cleaned my own trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns, but need some advice on this one. The screw that attaches the 3rd valve trigger to the slide cannot be accessed on the outer right side like other horns. The screw head is on the left side of the female threads, and is located between the 3rd valve and the trigger. The screw head can be exposed by pulling the trigger, but is still so close to the valve that a small slip with a screwdriver might result in a scratch to the finish.
I intend to have the horn cleaned if I can find a repairman I can feel confident in, but the F1 is unavailable in Phoenix and Tucson and it may be unlikely that I can find someone in the area that has had any experience with the horn.
Any information short of sending the horn back to the Netherlands (or other great distance) would be appreciated. Thanks, Trompetista |

Hey Trompetista, I have an F2 and have cleaned it may times using the method you described (that you are concerned about) Just be careful when you unscrew it and it will be fine (and hang onto that screw!). It really is worth getting that 3rd valve slide off to clean. I do not do it every time I clean the horn as it is a little tricky, say every 2 or 3 times.
Alos , make sure you clean those amado water keys as they can get stuck. They are designed so you can unscrew them and push the spring out. Worth doing and putting a little oil on them as well. Good luck _________________ http://giannimarinucci.wixsite.com/giannimarinucci

Have you considered Milano Music in Mesa? _________________ Brian A. Douglas

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |
