I have seriously considered starting some non-English forums on TH. I speak a little French.

Do users think having, for example, forums in French and German would be worthwhile?

Est-ce que vous pensez qu'un « forum » en français ou allemand serait géniale? Ou, non?

When I lived in Germany, I used a German Forum that was pretty helpful at the time. It's still around so, if you started one here, I think it would be redundant.

Right but I'm not trying to replace that. Just a sub-forum here in German and/or French. I know from watching traffic on the site that we have significant traffic from those European countries, maybe they would appreciate a place to converse in their native language ... ?

We also have quite a few visitors from Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Spain, and Norway. Next after those are China, Japan, and Brazil, in case anyone is interested. UK is #2 after the US.

In my humble opinion, it is not necessary to have a forum by country, languages, etc. because if you have something interesting to say, everyone is interested. There is no point in scattering information.
(By the way we say: un forum en français serait génial -no e ! 😉)

https://www.trompetenforum.de/TF/ is pretty good and the tone does not get out of hand as fast as I sometimes see it happen here. People seem more relaxed in a way. It is, however, a lot less active than TH. I assign this to the much smaller number of people contributing.

EDIT: I work in France often and it is my experience that a lot of French folks would appreciate a French speaking site (I don’t talk trumpets, but this applies to other stuff as well).

Brassnose,
one interest of TH is it is International, so you can have information and opinion from « elsewhere », not only from the street where you live.
One other interest, by the way, is you can practice English in an interesting way
Regarding people that want a French speaking forum, it is ok but the past French forums died of the lack of participation…(by the way, as far as I know, matrompette.com is from Switzerland and is quite sleeping).
So be careful, it is the same thing as the Selmer trumpet closing: everyone in France was crying but everyone bought a Bach, a Yamaha, and so on.
