I was thinking about bidding on this one, but decided not to at the last few seconds.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/185690080004?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=-2ngSs9FTIm&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=tmsaUZfmR2m&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It is a 50s Martin Committee that has had custom engraving done throughout the horn from the factory I believe.
Has "Miles" engraved on the bell.

This may be unlikely but does anyone think this Martin may have been owned by Miles Davis himself?

Interesting horn either way. For what it's worth, here's a picture of Miles with a similarly engraved trumpet that is part of the "Deep Water" exhibition at MassMOCA museum. Looks like it too may have a "Miles" engraved on the bell.

This engraving looks like it was done in the after-market.

While the engraving is impressive in its extent, it is fairly formulaic and in the wobble style that typified pre-war work. Martin presentation horns (I have a couple) typically provide a more well-defined space for the addition of the name, and do not crowd it that much. Additionally, the name is typically added after the main engraving is done, and in a distinct font/style. This dedication name is clearly done at the same time - and the original standard bell crest has been chased.

Overall, it is just stylistically primitive relative to what Martin did in the way of hand engraving at the time. Here is an example of all original hand engraving on a 1954 Martin.

As you can see, it is very different.

The listing also said it was offered by sale by the original owner's family, so ....

Now that looks like Martin engraving. Notice that it is complex, linear incision, varying in width and depth to create a surface texture - as opposed to just different widths of wobbling the graver side to side like the subject horn in the OP.

I have seen 3 variations on Miles' horns: No name, name on the side & name inside the bell flare. I've never seen that (or any artist name on a custom horn from Martin) in a traditional dedication space. (Presentation templates wouldn't be custom after all). Plus, zooming in, I am not seeing it in the photo.

I think you're making a lot of assumptions from some compressed photos on the internet.

Very difficult to make line width and technique judgements without the instrument in your hand.
