This is probably a query for advice for those familiar with the Olds/Kanstul tree of trumpet history.

I have a '53 Olds Special & love the way it plays (my primary horn). I picked up a Besson 609 (Kanstul made) a couple of years ago as a back up in case I needed to send the Olds in for work (contemplating a horn health check & re-lacquering). I really like the sound of the 609 but it plays more open like the old Ambassadors. I remember Jack Kanstul saying once that the 610s (left over 609 stock) was the new Ambassador (wink, wink). I had a couple Ambassadors (LA & Fullerton) and they played very similarly to this 609.

The thing is, the Special has a slightly longer lead pipe & is smaller (diameter wise) at the mpc end giving it a little more resistance; whereas the 609 lead pipe is slightly shorter & is bigger (diameter wise) at the mpc end & is more open.

Long story short, I'd like to get the 609 to play more like the Special & would consider a lead pipe change.
