|
|
My old Bundy is in pieces, had some dents taken out of it. It's been stripped to bare brass. I'm going to solder it back together and want to coat it but not going to spend money to send it out to have it relacquered...it's a Bundy. It has sentimental value to me but I imagine in factory-new condition it probably wouldn't fetch $150.
Is there a rattle-can lacquer that you're aware of that does a decent job - i.e. that will hold up to being handled once cured?
As an aside, I've seen silver-plated Bundys advertised on eBay in the past - did they ever actually come that way from the factory or did someone just spend ridiculous money to have a Bundy silver plated? _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I think the Nikolas is what more repair shops, including the one in the retail store I worked at.
Don't get your hopes up too high with any rattle can spray. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Thanks - if it protects the metal from oxygen and holds up to normal handling that's what I care about. In the case of this Bundy nuances of how it might subtly impact the sound are likely a moot point - lol.
It's also possible I might get set up for genuine lacquer spraying. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I don't do lacquer touch ups in my shop, but everyone who uses rattle cans uses that. |

I should have elaborated. It just doesn't last very long. It looks fine, but I've found the spots that got the rattle can lacquer lasted between 2 weeks and a month and change. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

I have horns with multiple coats of properly applied Nikolas that were touched-up many, many years ago. _________________ Ron Berndt

When you say it doesn't last what happens? Does it peel away? Maybe the prep was inadequate?
When it cures does it feel substantially different than factory lacquer? It's hard to envision that a product would keep being sold if it was junk.
Maybe I'll have to gamble a few $$ and give it a try. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

It just wore off. I don't recall peeling or flaking, it just was raw brass again.
It was a third slide ring and a 2nd slide, as I recall, on an old Selmer Radial. I don't know what the prep was, my buddy in the repair shop did the work. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Dang - every place I find that sells it charges about as much for shipping as for the can of lacquer. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen
