Yamaha YTR 6335

Found a brand new Yamaha YTR 6335 for £800, of course I know this is a good deal for a horn like this but is there a horn around the same price range that anyone would recommend instead?

Not really.

That horn is so amazingly versatile. Maybe the most versatile Yamaha there is.

I bought one of the very early YTR 6335s as a new horn in the mid 80s. My weekly gigs were a very loud Latin band and a 2 trumpet/2 trombone/4 sax big band at the time. It was the “perfect” horn for those applications.

That was a horn that, in retrospect, I never should have let out of my possession. I “loaned” it to a very close friend for a number of years. When I got it back, either the horn had drastically changed or I had (likely this). It was no longer the “beast” that it had once been. I eventually traded it back to that same friend. He has been a working musician his entire adult life and has a collection of many fine trumpets including a great Committee (Al Hirt’s old Martin) and a very early Callichio and Callet that he has owned since the early 70s. The 6335 is, according to his assessment, his favourite trumpet!

The 6335 is an excellent choice in my opinion!
