Good day all,

Ex-trombonist who recently picked up the trumpet here. Some things seem to translate, however, I am trying to get used to my Bach 7c mouthpiece!

Still I am having lots of fun.

Cheers!

Welcome!

Beware the addictive Mouthpiece Safari, but a trombonist may be more comfortable with a 3C or 1C initially. Buy a couple (no more than that!!) cheap used and experiment.

Thanks WxJeff. I have already swapped the mouthpiece that came with my horn for another. Fortunately that didn't cost me anything but I can see how all the choices might get expensive. I have my first lesson next Saturday so I will wait to see what my teacher says.

I think you'll pick it up quickly if you already have a decent foundation with the trombone. Similar concepts, just a bit different embouchure and of course the valve vs slide thing.

Hi LaTrompeta,

Some of the concepts definitely carry over. I'm getting used to the smaller mouthpiece and I am having lots of fun.

Best,

L

In the “Works for me” department, I use a Bach 12 SC in my tenor trombone, and a Bach 12B for my trumpet. With my playing, I may switch back and forth between the two horns in one church service. Both horns get used about equally, but YMMV. This isn’t a must do recommendation, that would be like me telling you to wear the same size shoe I wear, just what works for me.

What? Get a teacher and listen to him/her? What a concept.
