For fun and to mix things up a bit (avoid boredom), I just got a copy of Caruso Band Method (Rapid Development Through Long Setting) by Caruso, Graham and Booth.

The given sequence of the Six Notes is Tongue, Tongue, Breath.
I learned the Six Notes as Breath, Breath, Tongue.

Does anyone want to speculate as to why? Thanks.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I just watched a Ken Larson YouTube vid a few weeks ago and I thought he said Breath, Tongue, Tongue. Now I'm really curious...

I was assigned (T = tongue, B = breath attack):
- TTB 1st time
- BTT 2nd time

For me it was because my articulations were not super clear and so got the benefits on the breath attack but starting "centered" (ish, interpretation from years later)

In MFCB it has BTT as the "default", but does include the suggestion of TTB for some cases.

Many students of Carmine (or students of students) probably just assign whatever they were originally assigned tbh.

That's weird, my book has B T T for the six Notes.

Also, I'm curious how B B T would work. Does that mean you stop the air with you lip like saying 'p' or 'b', or do you start and stop the air flow itself?

The B-B-T is probably with a little air push from the gut on the second breath note.

But you guys told me what I need to know, thanks. I'll probably just go with the Caruso book's B-T-T. Thanks for your patience.

Before I went to study with Carmine, I had been studying his routines with one of his former students for a year or so. Both had me start the 6 notes on a breath attack. (BBT) I seem to remember the first guy telling me Carmine would sometimes have a new student start with the tongue after hearing the student play a bit.
Here's one for you all. I was packing up to head out after a session with CC and the next student was a violinist. Wonder what he had her start with. I couldn't stay to watch. Had just enough time to get to Grand Central for my train home.

FWIW for TTB what I was told to do (and/or did, don't remember the order) was to let the note before the breath attack end a little early, the goal being to actually get the same feel of breath attacking from a rest
