I know this is kind of a redundant post as I asked these same questions in this post but this is for sake of clarity. Can anybody tell me thier experiences with this trumpet? Could it be an all-around trumpet or is it going to be too dark to blend well? I'm not commited to one style of playing so I want to know if this horn could be used for classical, jazz, ska/rock, chamber, etc...
Thanks for your time
Chris

edit: ironic, edited for clarity.
edit 2: haha, maybe I should be practicing BBcode instead of trumpet.

Typically I wouldn't pick a vindabona for all around work. Possibly a great solo and lyric horn. But "typically" no not a "common" sound.

Having said that does it do what YOU want and give the sound YOU want.

kind of answers the question doesn't it.

Just read your original post, like you I am a returner although I've been returning a bit longer. The one piece of advice I'd give is get a good teacher. I really have made more progress in 6 months with a good teacher than I did in the months before, and indead from years of lessons at school a long time back.
Back to the horn, I was stupid but lucky, in that I didn't do what you have done but took some gambles on ebay, I was lucky enough to have some money going spare. I have a Vintage Strad 37 that just feels right, helps me sound like me etc. I just knew the first time I played it. My teacher isn't a Bach fan but he loves it too.
I'd suggest you give yourself a bit of time, go back with some music and play it again, also the Selmar, as it looks like that made an impression too. Take a friend to listen from the other end and a tape recorder as well. If you really want piece of mind get a teacher first and take them along to advise. The bottom line when it comes to playing is that people want listen to you because you to sound like you. I like listening to Winton cos he sounds like Winton, I don't like listening to other people trying to sound like Winton, and Winton sounds like himself whatever he plays, he plays a Monet because it makes it easier for him to get his sound.
Get the horn that feels "right" to you,. In a sense everyone on this board plays the same horn even though they are all different and made by different people, it's the horn that feels right, or the closest we've found yet. Seems like you've been lucky to find that horn early on. As someone else posted in the original thread you can modify the sound with a different mothpiece and also by practice, but there is nothing that can help if you aren't playing something that is an extension of your own unique voice.

Regards
Mark

I had one and it had a beautiful dark, sonorous sound. Trouble was that it was TOO dark for anything but maybe small brass ensemble music. It got lost in the jazz section and also I didn't think it worked for the symphonic orchestra I played in as I didn't think it projected well.

By the way, Wynton played an MLV with a 72 bell and I thought he sounded terrific.

I'm pretty sure he started out with a 65MLV also. I think he played this on his first album, but I'm not sure.

Where´s Wilmer Wise?

He´s a good friend of Wynton, played with him a lot and said that he had a 72 bell on his Vindobona.

Sorry guys ... I bought it. I just had to try it out. Those just don't show up very often ... and then from a professional player at that!

Well if I sound have as good as he does on it ... it will be a well-worth buy in my opinion!! It's really a no-brainer. He's played Monette's, Taylor's, Bach's of course, and Eclipses. So I can certainly trust his word when he says he is selling a good player. I couldn't resist.

I can't wait to try it out!
