|
|
I'm working on getting my Eb trumpet transposition to be good enough that I can sight read Bb parts, and am looking for some ideas for easy studies to use as practice material. I've gone through the Getchell books, and the Clodomir 70 Studies, but feel like there must be lots of other good stuff I don't know about.
Does anyone have favourite transposition practice material to share? To be clear, I'm looking for something easy enough that it can be reasonably read the first time, so that I'm always working on transposing, rather than something harder that requires being practiced repeatedly (at which point it tends to be semi-memorized, at least for me).
Thanks! |

Besancon's 70 Progressive Etudes
Herbillon's 48 Short Studies
Hering's 50 Recreational Studies
Ost's 21 Etudes
Reskin's Easy Trumpet Outings
Also, the early studies from Laurent and Maxime Alphonse |

One thing you could do if you are looking for more of a sightreading transposition is to use sightreadingfactory.com. You can set it up however difficult you want. |

I would suggest transposing techically easy material that you already have as a start. For example, Arban first studies and single tonguing exercises. The standard transposition books can follow. Good luck, you can do it. |

Make yourself uncomfortable. Anything on the stand works. Start an etude in Bb for 8 measures, then B for another 8, then C, C#, D etc. Then mix it up. At the base of all this is an efficient and resonant sound. This never is compromised. The rest should be as uncomfortable as humanly possible. Good luck |

We had this request a lot at qPress so I put together two sets of easy studies at a discount for people looking to chew through lots of easy material, either for learning or things like transposition (or piccolo trumpet practice even). Here they are:
