Does it make grammatical or mathematical sense? No.
Does that matter? Also no.
My recommendation is, accept it and get on with your life. The alternative is wasting rehearsal time by making people wonder what planet you are from, so that's probably not a good option. |
People often wonder that about me even when I don’t talk about this. |

Nothing wrong with being from another planet — as long as your extraterrestrial quirks do not unduly prolong rehearsals. _________________ Richard Sandals

This is it, this is the answer. |

I think this dialogue is overkill. I've played in and conducted professional big bands and orchestras down to community level amateur groups and only once was it ever a real problem.
IMO there's too much inflexibility among some and an unwillingness just to learn from "those who have already gone before". It's not a big deal unless one makes it one. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

It kind of gets back to one of the cardinal rules of ensemble playing:

Absolutely.
If we were in the same ensemble and I thought I was right and the other four people had a different opinion, I would go with the majority. I would rather spend the rest of the night making music than quibbling over semantics.
But that would have nothing to do with which opinion was right or not. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird
