The zink, or cornetto. was one of the most popular instruments of the renaissance and early baroque. The cornetto was discussed at legnth on the TH a while back. Perform a search using the words zink, cornetto or cornett and you'll get some threads with a lot of information.

I recently bought a CD by the Chestnut Brass Company on which they play cornettos as well as natural trumpets and keyed bugles. Very interesting. It's amazing how good these funny little sticks sound. (Can't say the same about the keyed bugles though.)

Here the info on the recording:

Dear Mr. Haysom,
Yes, we still have the recording by the Chestnut Brass Company, CD562. Half of the album contains music played by such instruments as cornetti, sackbuts, ophicleide, bugles, saxhorns, etc. Do you have a copy of our catalog? If you wish to give us your mailing address we can send one. You can also find the CD listed on our web site under brass instruments.

Price is US$16.95 plus $5.00 for shipping to Canada. We accept Visa, MC, or Discover. You can order via phone, fax, mail, email, or through our secure ordering system on the web site http://www.crystalrecords.com.

We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your interest.

If you like the sound of these, check out Jeremy West and His Majesty's Sagbutts & Cornetts.

http://www.jeremywest.co.uk/

I have got one of the Christopher Monk cornetts, it comes out about twice a year (to demonstrate early pieces to students, gives them an idea of how it may have sounded) and I wish I could justify using it more often.

I once attended a Renaissance music conference (whilst studying) and not only did we play the classic style of piece (lots of dances), we ended up with a renaissance big band. Awesome!!
