Hello
I was wondering what the coloration of oils/greases actually does. I’ve only ever used clear stuff, but today I surprised myself and purchased some Red Bach Tuning Slide Grease after the guy at my local music store recommended it. I am a little apprehensive about it however, as I don’t see the purpose of the red color. I’m not trying to jack up my horn! _________________ 1977 Getzen Eterna Doc Severinsen

I think the red is due to how it's formulated.
A friend of mine is an instrument repair technician and he has a big tub of Lucas Oil Red-N-Tacky grease in his shop - he uses a brush to apply it. He told me that Bach Red Tuning Slide Grease is the exact same thing, but packaged for Bach to be sold as slide grease.
Personally I don't like it - it gets all over the place and it's hard to take off short of using an actual solvent of some kind like naphtha. (Ronsonal lighter fluid)
If memory serves, it lasts a lot longer than lanolin based lubricants, but I'd rather use one of the lanolin based slide greases and apply more frequently than use the Bach Red. _________________ Patrick Gleason

Thank you for the response!
I think I’ll give the grease a spin and hope I don’t get to much on me
Have a fine day then _________________ 1977 Getzen Eterna Doc Severinsen
