|
|
I have gotten a Schilke S22C and am really liking it. However, I find the thumb ring slightly too small. When I remove my left hand from the trumpet while playing, or to set it down, if the angle is not perfect, my thumb kind of catches, or encounters resistance. On other horns I have had with the more traditional thumb saddle, I typically have to bend the saddle slightly more open.
Is there a "standard" size for these rings, and more to the point, can anyone recommend a supplier that sells slightly larger thumb rings? _________________ Larry Woods

Hm. I'm not sure if there are any makers of larger thumb rings, but you did mention that if the angle is not quite right your thumb catches.
With that in mind, perhaps a tech could adjust the angle of the current ring and see if that makes a difference. _________________ -Tom Hall-

The Yamaha RG trumpets have a large ring. I have also had a skilled tech fashion a split ring from a standard Bach first valve hook.

I'm not sure why I didn't think of this, since I had Dick Akright do this on my Strad. _________________ -Tom Hall-

Both the Bach LT180S77 and the Chicago C have large-ish 1st slide thumb rings. Any good repair shop should be able to order one and install it. |

Baritone, Tuba thumb rings are about $25 raw brass on e-bay but your tech would need to reshape the ring mount curve.
Lots of places could do a custom job for you - I just came across one that is new to me
