Hi fellow BE-ers,
Just to let you know that I have been awarded the first trumpet position with Scottish Opera.
I'm telling you that not to blow my own trumpet, so to speak, but to put on record the debt of gratitude I owe Jeff Smiley, not only for his brilliant method, but also for his help and encouragement over the last couple of years. I can honestly say that I would not have got this job without BE. It has taken my playing to another level, and given me the confidence to realise my ambitions.
We should remind ourselves sometimes of just how lucky we are. Not only have the BE method itself, but we have Jeff Smiley as the moderator of our very own forum to help and guide us. It doesn't get much better than that, folks!
Best regards,
Andrew |

Great Andrew,
Congratulation!
Did you play in the The Magic Flute, this Thursday evening at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow?
Ole
P.S.
I love Mozart - this evening I've just returned from a rehearsal of his Requiem (I play 2. Clarino) |

Congratulations, Andrew!
I know how much you wanted this, as you have - in the past - been considered by your peers to be basically a 2nd part player (how many readers out there are members of the "2nd part club?") It takes a lot to move up to the next level. To me, what you did was an inspiration.
I think that you are WAY to kind to me and the BE method - but thanks, anyway! You are the one who had the guts to make changes. Few ever step forward like you did. That's why YOU are principal!
First chair. Man, that must really sound good. Really happy for you.
Thanks for the day-brightener!

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your kind words. I'm so pleased that your pleased!
I posted my news on the forum, not so that I would be showered with transatlantic praise, but mainly in the hope of inspiring others to continue with the BE process.
And now that you have sorted out my playing, do you have anything in your bag of tricks that will help me with orchestral politics?
Best regards,
Andrew |

Andrew,
Congratulations, and for the people who think BE is only for lead players and jazz, I think this tells them different.
BTW I am planning a coup, too. I always considered myself a moderate second part player, but there is going to be one lead player more in Holland in the next few years. For me it now has more to do with self confidence than with my chops, but your post really encouraged me to take my place at the lead seat, YEAH!!!!
I' ll keep you posted if I make it.

Hi Bert,
Thanks for your kind words.
Good luck with your playing also. I'm sure you will make it to lead before too long. Go for it!
Best regards,
Andrew |

Andrew:
It is ALWAYS a grand thing to succeed in an endeavor that one works so hard for...particularly rising above a status of musicianship to the next...next...and next level from where the player began.
Congratulations of your appointment in the opera orchestra. When I go to each and every opera performance in the Dallas, Texas Opera (been doing it for 28 years now), I delight in listening to the orchestra and attempt to realize just how much pleasure the players must be having to generate the wonderful sound from the scores...it would have to be very exciting to do so.
Best wishes to you.
Sincerely,
Lex Grantham |

Way to go Andrew!
While BE may have provided a "sound" basis, I suspect you have a few other fine attributes which helped as well...

Lex-
Thanks very much. I'm glad you're an opera lover. A friend of mine has been to the opera at Dallas many times, and he says that it is an excellent company.
Don-
Thanks to you also. Maybe there were some other factors which contributed to my appointment, but I think that BE was perhaps the major force in turning things around for me.
Best regards,
Andrew |
