Reinhartd Warm Up / Routines

Hi everyone,

I realized that in the Reinhardt routines book, it says to begin with the Pivot Stabilizer. And then forget and proceed.

Do you have a Warm Up prior to the routines or do you get right into them ?

My concerns are :

If I can reduce my time of practice, that would be cool.
Typically, I have my own Warm Up ( 15-20mn), rest and then I try to play from the book.
Once the day's routine has been played, I usually dont have the time fo rthe remaining drills.
Maybe no Warm Up could help

but

on gigs day, I have to have a Warm Up and be ' acquianted ' with it right ?

So, what are your thoughts ?

You should be warmed up within 5 minutes, anything more is practice. - Roger Ingram.

You could try doing Roger's warmup. You can find him teaching it online.

Chris LaBarbera's Warmup #57 is DSR material and designed to be a short warmup leaving you "acquainted" with the horn. You could try that - it is pinned I think.

Typically I do some Stamp - I don't do any of the mpc buzzing, and depending on the work ahead I leave off the pedal extensions. DSR warned against pedal tones, in fact ardently so, because of their ability to mess up a trumpet player. I have been there, and it is my opinion that it is safer not to do them than to do them incorrectly.

With Stamp you need to delineate between what is a warmup and what is a routine.

As Roger says - a lot of people don't know the difference between warming up and practising. <5 mins is all you need.

If you're doing the routines, the stabilizer IS your warmup.
The object is to establish your correct pivot before you do anything else.
If you don't understand your correct pivot, then there's no benefit from doing the stabilizer and you're only reinforcing whatever wrong stuff you were already doing.

And if you do know what you're doing and why you're doing it, take whatever amount of time you need to establish your form and reinforce it so it sticks. 5 minutes will be enough in a few years.
