WebMD

Many years ago I used lips balms because my lips were chapped and they never got better. I stopped using balms completely, my lips healed, and I've never needed them since.

YMMV

Yup.

Robinson's Remedies are the only products that work to improve endurance and speed recovery. They have a Lip Renew cream that works in seconds without wiping it off. No grease, wax, camphor or any of that. The Recovery stick is great for between playing because it also moisturizes without ny wax or grease.

These products remove lactic aid from the muscles, oxygenate the blood where you apply it and reduces swelling. Natural ingredients. The stick also moisturizes.

They have a very impressive endorser list.

A major factor regarding dry or chapped lips is environment - low humidity, sun exposure, wind, etc. can increase the chance of problems.
Be aware of the condition of your lips, and don't abuse them!

Short answer, looks deceptively flippant, but it's really not. I found that using balm all the time just trained me to be dependent on the stuff, habits being what they are.

But, drinking more water, helped with the problem, and in other ways. To the point I probably drink 3-5x more water a day than I used to, and that makes a shocking amount of difference, especially on heavy, outdoor gigs.

about the only time I use balm is in very dry, windy weather, which thankfully we don't get down here in Texas too often. When we do though, it's usually serious.

I recently bought a bottle of Robinson's Remedies. Works great during and after practice. I still use my regular lip balm out of habit during the day.

So many doctors on the forums I see. Water is the miracle cure!

I use Chopsaver. I buy it bulk. My kids use it too. It’s especially important when out in the sun to use a lip balm with sunblock in it, and the Chopsaver one is wonderful.

But I’m glad that all of you doctors here on TH are here to tell me I’m wrong. I’m just dehydrated. Thanks, docs!

Over the years I've tried all kinds of stuff - for me Blistex in a squeeze tube has always been my go-to. It penetrates and heals faster than just about anything else I've ever tried, and I've tried Chops Saver, which I didn't particularly care for. Blistex in a tube is still my favorite, and I stumbled into it clear back in high school at band camp one year where my lips were incredibly chapped, and I had gotten that irritated red-ring all around my mouth from licking at them. I started using it around day 2 or 3, and they were completely healed up by the end of the week.

Blistex in a tube - give it a shot. If your chops are really beat up, t'll take a few days, but only a few days. I swear by it.

I like this one too. Obviously I don't use it as a daily lip balm, but instead if I have chapped lips.

Take care and best wishes

Lou

Can't use balm myself. When it's cold and windy I cover my face with a scarf, and when it's dry because I have to heat my home I use a humidifier. If my chops are stiff or swollen I use "Apis Mellifica", which is actually used to reduce swelling caused by insect bites or stings.

When I started studying with Doc Reinhardt in the 1970s, he put me on White's Vitamin A&D Ointment. It's still all that I use.
