Hi, I just recently switched from a Curry 5c/5z to a GR 66MX. It feels better in every way throughout the entire range of the horn. According to Steve Emery, who fitted me for this mouthpiece, there is going to be a major adjustment period where it's going to feel worse for a little bit. So far, I have started to notice that, but even at its worst, it still feels better than how I used to feel. So I'm definitely going to keep working with it. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips for adjusting to it easier.

The break-in period will last about three days, after which you will need to start looking for another mouthpiece.

If a mouthpiece requires major adjustment (to the way you play) or a major adjustment period, then perhaps that mouthpiece isn’t suitable for you…?

Depends. If it ends up being a positive adjustment then maybe it is.

Keep the chops ultra fresh and don't get fatigued.

Sounds like typical trumpet snake oil marketing. Now we need a ‘product’ to go with it…

---------------------------
When you become fatigued or your chops stop working right - Stop .
Do use the new mpc as much as possible WITHOUT having to fight it.
Learn to use the mpc to sound good easily - endurance and longer 'good sessions' will come.

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'.

I agree that JayKosta is correct about adapting so as to not get into fatigue. I will admit, however, that I want to know earlier rather than down the road if a mouthpiece I'm testing is going to cause me to give out at the end of the night. So, fairly early on, but just once, I do push myself to the ready-to-collapse point to see what happens.
