Hi all. I play a Bobby Shew jazz mouthpiece for nearly everything these days. For context I mainly play lead in Big bands, small group jazz, Latin, session work etc. For some orchestral playing I use a Bach 1.5c. For the occasional killer lead chart I'll use a Yamaha 14a4a gp. But mostly it's the Shew jazz.
What I am interested in is if Yamaha would make a custom gp version of the Shew jazz. How do I go about getting this done? Is it possible? Who is the contact here??

MouthpieceExpress.com can gold-plate the Yamaha Shew Jazz mouthpiece:

There is also a custom GP (gold rim / cup) Yamaha Allen Vizzutti mouthpiece:

I'm guessing it's the mouthpiece blank you are interested in not just the gold plating.

Why not contact

They have the mouthpiece scan - it would just be a mater of a different blank.

Another possibility would be to get a mouthpiece maker to make a custom mouthpiece top weight sort of like this

Oh - before you do any of this - get some leadfree solder wire and wrap the cup of your Shew to approximate the GP profile. Adding weight will change the way it plays. The GP mouthpieces are designed with the added weight in mind. Adding weight might require a change in the throat size or backbore to keep the blow like the original.
