Hello friends!
I recently purchased one of the new Tatu mutes, the one with the copper insert. I played it yesterday on Shostakovich's First Symphony in a rehearsal, and they are fantastic.
Here's my concern. How do I take this mute to rehearsal and protect it during the journey? I have two of the Protec Mute bags, but am not sure that this Tatu will be protected well enough in either if those bags. Anyone have a suggestion or idea?
Thank you!

Get a bigger trumpet case that has a mute compartment? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I have the Tatu #2 straight mute and the Cup Mute. Are you referring to the #1 Straight Mute with insert? If so, Is there something special about the insert that requires extra protection? If not, the Tatu mutes are durable and have held up fine in my MyMute bag.
If there is a need for special protection, I can tell you that the Tatu mutes fit in the sturdy cardboard tubes that my TrumCor mutes came in. That option would take up a fair amount of space in your mute bag, but would give you the extra protection.
Enjoy those mutes! |

I have other factors that requires me to carry the case I carry. Even in a case with a mute area, I'd still need to pad the mute for safety as it is VERY lightweight.
I am thinking of creating a bubble pack cover for the mute. At least a little padding in case of accident. _________________ Dr. Albert L. Lilly, III DM

Great suggestions, thanks! Are you happy with the cup as well? _________________ Dr. Albert L. Lilly, III DM

I love the sound of the Tatu cup: Absolutely gorgeous. But I don't find the design to be particularly player friendly. The combination of a fairly flexible cup and the lack of a lip on the base of the mute makes fast mute changes and/or adjustments once the mute is on the horn tricker than on pretty much any other cup mute I own.
I asked Mate about those factors and he felt that was the "price" that had to be paid to get the sound he wanted. Trying to address them resulted in a less desirable sound. Not surprising, but unfortunate (for me). |

I like the Tatu mutes. Very in tune and a good compromise between a loud metal straight and the TrumCor lyric. The corks are fragile! Didn't some guys in Chicago copy their design?
