It is likely a very small number of trumpet players. VERY SMALL.

In-any-event; to each his own. We are fortunate in having many choices..

I'm not sure what issue you're seeing with the number of people interested in paying more for a perceived improvement in sound and/or playability. Why does this make a difference to anyone other than the companies trying to sell enough instruments to make a living?

The above "unsure" aspect is noted.

HOWEVER (!) ... about (+/-) how many "full-time professions musicians", in this particular case, trumpet-players ... might you speculate, are you suggesting?

I didn't have any number in mind. Why is that relevant? It's a reasonable hypothetical (that you agree is true).

My main point is more important: Different people in different circumstances operate under different value propositions. There have been too many heated arguments on TH arising from some people passing negative judgement on the choices of others simply because they don't share the same value proposition.

Hear, hear, Halflip! I 100% agree on all accounts! Pity this forum doesn’t have a version of a “like button,” like some (apparently dreaded) social media do. We already have at least as many attention seekers, bored trolls, and drama queens. Why not also have the *benefits* of those platforms and incorporate a like feature as well?

Facebook has a very useful feature called blocking. It could also be of great utility here.

I'm with you!

A "like button" would be nice. A blocking feature might be a useful defense against those attention seekers, bored trolls, and drama queens.

On the baseball forum I go on there is an 'ignore' feature, so you just don't see the posts of the person you set on 'ignore'. It shows you where the person posts a comment, but not what they posted.

I have only one person there on 'ignore' and thought maybe I should enable their posts again, so I logged out to read a few of their comments. Only took a few minutes before I was reminded my life is better with the 'ignore' setting for them staying in place.

So far here I haven't run into anyone that I would wish to 'ignore'.

So… at the risk of veering this thread ON topic of the OP… I’ve got questions!

Robert Cordle, one of the two gentlemen who created Rat Rod horns, is active on Facebook. I think that even if you do not have an account on FB you can contact him through the Rat Rod FB page.

I can attest that he does good work - I have a Conn 22b he cut down to a C that plays beautifully. You can't beat the price. Check it out.

Looks like ljnev has experience with them? Anybody else?

I’ve got a horn that I want to mod, or get modified. I’d like to know if this might be a good option. Some questions I have are:
* how good is communication?
* do the solder joints and finish look clean and tight, or amateurish?
* are they amenable to aesthetic input, or do they just kinda do it their own way, take it or leave it?
* do they work to tweak to dial in performance characteristics, or what they make is what you get?

These and MORE questions, but that’s a good start to let me know if it’s worth spending their and my time in conversation.

I won’t deny I’m persnickety! I’ll pay if someone can do something better than I can, but if I’m paying, then I expect quality (otherwise I’ll do it myself). I have too many horror stories with contractors that led me to choosing to just do it myself…

If anybody’s curious, I contacted them. They don’t do repair or bending. They farm out repairs. They just do cutting down tubing from Bb to C lengths and lacquer stripping and refinishing.

So not the kind of customizing that I am personally looking for, but good if you want to turn a Bb to C.
