|
|
I just received what is alleged to be a CarolBrass "Legend" Flugelhorn. However, it looks a little "off" to me. Other than a serial number on the middle valve casing ("126191-H.G."), it has no engraving on it anywhere. Not the bell, not the leadpipe, nowhere. It has the right sized bell (a pinch under 6 inches), but otherwise it looks a little smaller than I expected (I've never had one in my hands before). It does have the same Saturn-style water keys as my other two CarolBrass horns. I would not think a knock-off would have those, but what do I know?
Short of writing to the manufacturer, how can I look up this serial number?? _________________ Joe Begenwald

Thanks for the referral.
What I have is, in fact, a Custom Doug Teeter Model Legend Flugelhorn from Hoxon Gaaki (CarolBrass). Doug identified every last detail of the horn, down to the thickness of the pinky ring and the scroll pattern on the valve caps.
Doug was a very personable individual to talk with.
Thanks again. _________________ Joe Begenwald

This is an older post but hopefully someone will read it. I just bought a beautifully plating Flugelhorn called a George Rawlins Solista. It's quite a lovely playing horn with beautiful rose brass bell. The guy I got it from said it was a Carol Brass horn tweaked by Mr Rawlins. For the price of $700 I am extremely satisfied. But, does anyone know anything about George Rawlins? _________________ Brian Woosley

What are you looking for?
If you can call him or send him a PM via TrumpetHerald, you can (obviously) ask him anything you want. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)

I was looking to see who actually made it and when. George's web page has been shut down. The guy I bought it from is/was an acquaintance of his. He told me George is in memory failure of some sort. Same guy told me it was a Carol Brass horn. They deny any such relationship.
I have spent more time than I'll admit comparing my horn to any make. It has the identical coloring, hardware, spit valve design, lyre holder, leadpipe hardware, etc.
It's not a huge deal because as infrequent as I play it, it's just fine. But, I like figuring stuff out as well.
