Thanks FISH.
Anybody know how many will be made? Set number or until demand is over? _________________ Steve Gruver

I own #22. I bought it right away knowing that the strike was going to make them scarce. It plays wonderfully and is made very well.
I understand that there will be only 2000 made, and at the moment further limited because of the strike. It is on its own serial number set.
The horn has a lot of features that are found on the New York Bachs.
FYI - The 197 is advertised as a ML Bore horn (.459). I was told by a very reliable source that it is really a Large Bore. Sure enough, when I bought my 197, I had them measure the bore and it was definitely a Large bore
(.462). My horn actually measures out to .466 at the 2nd valve slide.
The large bore isn't much of a problem for me because my regular horn is a CG Selmer with a .470/.468 bore. _________________ Terry Sakow

Thanks for replying! I just purchased #324 and absolutely love how the horn plays. Very versatile instrument. That's interested that you found out that it is actually a large bore. _________________ Steve Gruver

Iām on my second LT180S77. My understanding is they are the same as the 197 minus the gold bling. I also vaguely recall that only a few thousand 197 were made before Conn-Selmer put them into regular production as the LT180S77 and the lacquer version LT18077.
My guess is the LT180S77 was the plan all along and the 197 was the special-edition-limited-time-offer shiny object meant to create interest. But not to speculate would be irresponsible š¤.

I played a 7/7 maybe 10 years ago now, at a show, with a couple long tables filled with Bachs, most of them Bb's, at least 3/4 of the full complement, including piccs (or Bach calls a picc), an Eb/D or two, and maybe 8 or 9 C trumpets. I was in the market for a C at the time, and ended up buying a really nice Philly that got even better after Becker (still at Osmun at the time) worked his mojo on the bell tail. But, I still remember playing through most of the horns on that table, and of all the Bb's, the 7/7 was the one I would have bought, if I hadn't just bought the C and living in a community property state... didn't feel like pushing the limits too far that day.
really, really, nice playing horn. _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away."
As a comebacker after 14 years away, returning in the summer of 2014, I recognized very early on that some new equipment was going to be in my future. After a couple of years of diligent search, much by trial and error, I was blessed with a bigger selection of horns than I would have imagined. I chose a new Bach LT180S77 (NY7) just before Thanksgiving 2016! The NY7 experience lit a fire that has not diminished in any way since unboxing day 7 1/2 years ago.
My old Benge 5x that I bought as a new horn in late 1971/early 1972 had been my favourite for decades, but was in need of some expert replenishment. I took the opportunity to send it off to Jim Becker, then at Osmun shortly after getting the NY7. After a few months, my old flame came back home a better horn than I remembered, and I got a good long chance to play it often along side my NY7. They are different in some ways, but seem to have more in common than I would have expected. The NY7 if anything, is much like my Benge but on steroids. It is as much a thrill to play as the first day, and I must confess that it has been the catalyst in driving me once again, to pursue a level of playing that I thought was long gone! If I could only have 2 horns, it would undoubtedly be both the NY7 and the Benge, perfect bookends to this trumpet player's generously long life!
Life is Short, find the Joy in it!

A few of us can only dream of being that "sloppy". Very nice. A great horn coupled with a great player is a wonderful thing! _________________ Bach190ML43

I am still hoping someone will be able to tell me if a Bach NY7 with gold trim is a 197? Or were any 180 NY7's made with gold trim? _________________ Bach190ML43

Yes, the NY7 or LT18077 or LT180S77 is the same horn as the 197. The 197 was a limited run horn with its own serial numbers, they made 1,000 or so of them and marketed them as special, anniversary, or something. It came with silver plating, the slides were gold plated, and it also had a gold trim kit with cool finger buttons. I own one and it plays really well. It has a larger than .459 bore and while I enjoy mine, I have moved on from playing it often. _________________ Life's a journey, not a destination.
