With all the new trumpets Bach has brought out they have quietly discontinued the LR series

The new reverse lead pipe horns seem to have a setup like the Xeno reverse lead pipes with moved braces etc

Has anyone given them a try - what do you think of them ? Not much talk about them online as far as I can see..

I had one out on trial from the Mighty Quinn...nice horn, no craftmanship defects, sharp engraving, played well. Very even and resonant blow. Just too open for me so I sent it back. Plus, I've gotten used to lighter weight stuff.

I should add there was more resonance than with the old LRs. I think if you like fairly heavy reverse leadpipe setups it's definitely an improvement over the old design.

I really like the Bach Stradivarius with the reversed leadpipe, but from my recent discoveries, the Bach commercial trumpet sounds much more interesting to me.
But I will prefer the LR modification; new it is still not entirely clear to me.

The horns the last poster referred to are discontinued.

As a fan of the LR180S72, I am not especially happy about that, but there are new reversed Bachs. The horn the OP references I have neither seen, nor spoken to anyone who has. What is notable is that the new "Apollo", which is based on the old LR series, seems to have garnered more enthusiastic online comment than all of the other new Bach's combined (yes, the irony in that is not lost on me - but great is great).

I really like my 30+-yr old LR180-37ML. I'd been playing a Claude Gordon Selmer up to that point, which was a very lightweight horn, with quick response but a more spread sound that didn't always cut through in a big band and didn't work as well (for me, anyway) with classical literature. I changed to the LR 180 because with the lightweight body it still had very quick response, like the CG Selmer, but with the standard weight 37 bell it had more core to the sound and better forward projection; I've used it in both jazz and classical settings and it blends well in both, depending on the mouthpiece.

Haven't tried any of the newer Bachs. I know the LR180 models were Bach's best sellers for most of the 1990s and into the early 2000s.
