I am thinking of getting a Bach C trumpet and am wondering about the difference between the 229 and 239 bells. I have read the Bach description, but I would like some real world feedback from those that have played both. I main;y do small chamber type stuff with strings, oboes, flutes, etc. as opposed to orchestra work. I presently have a Schilke CX with a berylium bell which is a bit too bright for this venue
Thanks |

both will play well and in-tune - the 239 will have a slightly more 'compact" sound that will fit well with a chamber or smaller orchestra. While the 229 is broader and some like the sound for large ensemble work |

This has previously been discussed at length in this forum. Use the search function and you'll surely find what you need. |

I did a search but was not satisfied with the info. There seems to be a dichotomy of opinion on these bells so perhaps a reopening of the discussion is in order.

Uggh, I hate that "we talked about it, do a search" attitude. The forum would die if all we did was search, and occasionally post new things-there isn't that much to discuss!!! Some of you people who have been around since the birth of this forum need to relax on that attitude a bit. I can see on things that have just a ton of info out (for example, the Zeus) but something more obscure? Let people give advice-just don't chime in if you don't want to repeat yourself. |

Play both, buy the one you like. Neither is "better".
At the DFW Trumpetfest in November, it was a close race, but the listener preference (all trumpet players) from the back of a large sactuary was; 1st Sterling 229, 2d 239 and 3d brass 229.
Please note, the race was very close, like one first place vote per ranking difference. So, buy the one you like the most personally.
