I'm seriously considering a new flugelhorn. A portion of the funding for that purchase will come from selling my old flugel once I'm happily attached to a new one. Another portion needs to come from selling one of my less-used horns, a '68 ML Getzen Eterna Severinsen. This is a beautiful horn, but I have to admit that I've barely picked it up since I bought the Meha. It's pre-amado (traditional water keys), no dents, just a couple of dings, first valve trigger, and a great player. Original Getzen case and case cover. On one hand, I hate to sell it... on the other, it's a great horn and it deserves to spend more time out of the case that it's been getting. And, I get both a new flugel AND a happy wife.
What's the current market for these? I haven't seen many lately... but then again, I haven't been looking for one, either. If I go ahead and sell it, I want to put a fair price on it that's neither too low nor excessively high.
Thanks!

One way to test the market: go to eBay and find a horn like the one you may be selling. Click on "completed items" on the left side of the page and it will show all recent sales for items similar to the one you're interested in.
Another method, of course, is to go to TH marketplace and see what comes up there.
Also, do a Google search for your horns and see what comes up. Do the same in musicmaker.trumpet news group, and check out TPIN.
Finally, log onto some of the online music stores, like http://www.dillonmusic.com, and see if they have any horns like yours and note the condition and price.
Good luck! _________________ Jim Hatfield

Based on an ebay search it looks like they go in the $500-$600 range. _________________ Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig. |
