I'm considering buying on e-bay either a silver 37 or silver 43. Could somebody please explain any differences between these two and/or which one is the best.

The 43 is brighter and better for lead trumpet and the 37 is good for all around playing. Some people play lead on a 37 as well . What kind of playing situations do you need the horn for? I personally like the 37 the best, but it does not necessarily mean one is better than the other. I think you can't go wrong with a 37. It works well for all playing situations.

Thanks, I am a comeback player and coming back after a 43 yr absence. I bought a cheap student horn and regret doing that now so just wanted a better trumpet for myself. I play for my own enjoyment only.

The 43 bell is definitely brighter then the 37. The 37 is a better all around horn.

A 72 bell is considered to give the darkest sound of the bell sizes, and is recommended for orchestral playing.

A small disclaimer...the best thing to do to decide which bell you want is to hustle on over to the nearest music store and try a Bach with a 37 bell, then one with a 43 bell and make your choice based on sound and feel.

I think that the 65 bell is a bit darker than the 72.

I have a 72 with a 43 lp. I play in a latin jazz orchestra with three trumpets players. Two of them have the 37 model. I tested both and prefer the 72. It makes more bright sound over the 37.

How does the resistance in the 43 compared to the 37?

I always kind of feel the 43 plays more open. For me personally, I prefer the 37.

I did do an experiment by building a horn with a tighter #6 pipe and a 43 bell. I think it's very well balanced.

For a good, overall (do-all) horn, the 25 pipe/37 bell is probably the way to go. That's not meaning the 43 isn't bad. Just my opinion.

Do these different Bach models have different bore sizes?

____

Here's some good information on the different bells:
