I'm going to be playing a recital in late May (anybody around Savannah is welcome to come) and I am looking for music suggestions. I have already decided on J Guy Ropartz Andante et Allegro, and am considering a movement from the Kennan Sonata and/or the Arutunian. Any suggestions for pieces along those lines and of approx same difficulty would be appreciated.

The snd movement from Ewazen's Sonata would be a nice change of pace....really beautiful harmonies, not too much dissonance, and the range isn't too bad...up to a high Bb I believe. James Thompson has a great recording of it on the 2003 ITG CD.
For an encore or something, "Rondo for Lifey" is a funny little piece that's not too hard. Give it to your pianist early, though, and make sure they practice it! It's a deceptively tough piano part, and I've had a couple of accompaniasts put it off til the last minute, only to discover they couldn't play it!

If you feel comfortable on C trumpet, check out something by Bozza such as Rustiques or Badinage. He has written some neat little pieces that are a good change of pace from a heavier sonata or concerto. _________________ Matt Cyr
