Does anyone spit buzz(without the horn, just lips and tongue) harmonically, i.e. notes of a cord up and down like c,e,g,c,g,e,c. I know it's possible - I heard Mr. Callet do it. Any tips? Do you just move the tongue or lips. How do you practice it?

Thanks, germerv

Germerv,

Jerry assigns the task of spit buzzing scales, melodies, and chords to all students. It's a very important part of everyday practice. He told me that he does it about 20 minutes every day.

According to Jerry, change in pitch should be controlled primarily by the tongue as described in Trumpet Secret #1. As he says, "Start by spit-buzzing lower scales in one octave ranges, then increase the range. ...Do not squeeze the lips together or pull them in tightly against the teeth." TCE p. 6

Best regards, Kyle
