I direct this question to Bulos as he is a Conn/Olds specialist, but I invite anyone to fill me in on a particular horn. I have a Supertone Bandmaster. A very "flat" sleek "art deco" styled horn. Wasn't this a Conn subsidiary? I don't seem to be able to match the serial # logically with available conn serial # lists. I do know that Conn produced similarly designed horns in the 30's and early 40's. Any connection? |

This doesn't answer your question. The horn you're talking about- does it have hexagonal valves and a chopped off bell flare? If so, I've played one, and quickly put it down. It is nice to look at, though. |

No, the conns of that era have the hexogonal valves. These are conventional. It does have the slanted main tuning slide that crosses inside the third valve slide. Not a horn I'd ever play on a gig. (It's in dire need of restoration, in any case.) It's just an interesting collector's item and I'm curious as to it's lineage. |
