Ok, i usually play a 3C for just about everything and the other day i decided to try as many 3C's as i could find laying around the band room (you'd be surprised how many there are). I tried about 10, including mine and they were all different, of course, but the range in how different they were was what was amazing. I know the old ones with small letters are generally smaller but 8 out of the 10 were practically new. Some had shallower or deeper cups, more "funnel" shaped, wider rims, larger diameter, ect. Have any of you had trouble with Bach's inconsistency not just in horns but in mouthpieces as well?

I have several Bach 3C's. Only two would I say are identical or near identical. What amazes me in this day of CNC lathes is the amount of inconsistancy in the LENGTH of mpcs. I have a few of another model from another company and two were a bit too long. And now it seems mpc makers are afraid to polish the interior bowl. Seeing rough machine marks in the bowl has always turned me off to some makers.
