Nice to meet you in another forum, haha. And false scales are not from Stamp. I have been in the Stamp camp long enough to know that. Actually false scales are part of the Quinque method (ASA) which I have been using a lot about fifteen years ago. I think it is a very dangerous exercise. It provokes all kinds of bad habits, like pulling the tongue back, making the oral cavaty so small that there can only be a tiny tone, and as a consequence you are not able to play loud anymore.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and Martijn: if your teacher is able to do this, does not mean that it is a good exercise for you. If he is a great player and this helped him he is just a lucky guy, because this is one of the exercises that always go wrong. Just a warning. |
