I was just wondering if anyone knows much about the jazz program at Cal State LA. Im looking into this school but would like some input.
I also heard from someone that Citrus Com college had something good there too? |

If you are a trumpet player, I would suggest starting at Citrus College. I have heard many great things about Bob Slack (director and trumpet teacher), and their jazz band is awesome. Jeff Benedict a CSULA is a great teacher and saxophonist, and I understand that Joe Harris has begun teaching there adjunct in trumpet ( If you haven't heard Joe, you need to. He is one of the finest lead players in L.A.). You may also want to chekc out Cal State Northridge, as the jazz bands are usually hot, and I think Wayne Bergeron is now teaching adjuct.
Good Luck,

Citrus is a great place for trumpet, especially commercial stuff. Slack is great...one of the best teachers from among Mr. Adam's former students. Charly Davis also used to do some teaching there. I'm not sure if he still does.
We have had several Citrus kids end up here at IU. They were all very well prepared and outstanding players. |
