Does anyone know anything about the University of Oregon, Eugene music school? Their faculty in both the legit and Jazz areas seem pretty heavy. How about the general music scene in the Portland/Eugene, OR area? How about other schools on the West Coast - is L.A. the only place to be? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

The music school is good. The jazz instructor, Steve Owen is great. So is the director of bands, Bob Ponto. The trumpet teacher is a great player, but his students have told me he is more interested in fly fishing than teaching the trumpet. Portland is a good scene, but it's over 2 hours from Eugene. I don't think there is a lot happening musically in Eugene beyond the university.
