What's the deal? My previous horn didn't have the thumb-ring, but with this one, I'm forced to keep my thumb out of there or it'll start going numb, and be sore all day.
I have it taped up right now, I don't want to have to break it off. |

When you say that your previous instrument didn't have a ring, do you mean it had nothing or did it have a saddle?
If you are used to a saddle and find the ring uncomfortable, I would suggest that you see a decent repairman and get the ring removed and a saddle put on instead.
You might also find that they could just move the ring slightly, to a more comfortable position for you.
A past student of mine (who I still see quite often) got a Taylor trumpet and found that the rings were too far apart for her hands. Andy Taylor was very happy to adjust the instrument for her. It is very difficult for me to hold (being quite a bit bigger than her!) but she finds it very comfortable now.
Just a couple of thoughts. |
