What kind of price range is this horn in?
http://www.getzen.com/cornet/custom/3850.shtml
I have done a limited internet search and cannot seem to find anyone carrying this exact horn.
Just curious. Great looking horn.

I checked the price at Dillon's about 3 weeks ago and it was around $1100.00, give or take $50, maybe $100 more for silver.

I bought a silver 3850 from Dillon and paid about $1,200 for it. They had two to choose from when I was there. They told me one played better than the other, but I couldn't figure out which one it was and they couldn't remember which one . I was told by Dave Lotozo that Getzen is the Salvation Army cornet of choice. If that's true I can see why. It's a great cornet. Don't think Dave is there anymore. Too bad, he was very helpful. I spent 3 hours trying different horns and the Dillon people could not have been nicer and more patient.

I got a price quote from Dillon's at $1,050 for the Laquer. Is there a better price out there?

I have seen a number of Getzen and Yamaha Cornets in the Salvation Army in the USA.

However, over here in Europe we prefer the B & H Sovereign Cornets.

I personally have tried some of the mid 80's Getzen Eternas and found them a little to bright for my taste, but I was told, that the newer ones have mellowed out a little.

The Salvation Army Band does have and play a number of 3850 cornets. So does the President's Own Marine Band. Ahh, if only we could use them in advertising.

As for Europe, our new cornets are becoming more and more popular there. In fact, the Göteborg Brass Band plays nothing but 3850 Custom Series Bb Cornets.

Our new cornets are much better than those made by the company during the 1980s in almost every way. To say that they have only mellowed out a "little" is an understatement. There are many posts on here discussing the great feel, sound, and quality of the 3850. Try one for yourself and see.

Mr. Getzen,

Maybe I shouldn't be so happy with my Getzen 800 cornet that I bought in the 80's then? Only kidding. I really like my cornet. It is a wonderful instrument.

Don't get me wrong, there were some fine instruments put out by the company in the 80s. However, if ever there was a poster child of inconsistancy it was the Getzen Company during the 80s. That is part of the reason that the company went bankrupt and the family had a chance to buy it back. Anyway, congratulations on having one of the good ones.

Have you tried one of our new models yet? I'd be interested in hearing how you think they compare.

Does this horn come with a case? If so, is it big enough for the horn, mutes and trumpet stand?

The 3850 does indeed come with a case. All of our instruments do and that is included in the price. I'll have to check to be certain, but I think the case has two compartments. One is under the cornet perfect for valve oil, cleaning cloth, snake cleaner, etc... The other is an area in the front of the case that will fit a mute. As for the stand fitting, well that depends on the stand.

Like I said, I am not 100% certain about this and will have to check tomorrow to be certain. If you want, you can email me at brett@getzen.com and I will send you some pics of the case.

I had an 850 (predecessor to the 3850) cornet in my hands a few weeks ago; and there are the two compartments as Brett mentioned. The mute compartment will realistically hold one or two mutes (I tried putting in harmon brand harmon and tri-tone cup mutes, and it was very tight with the two of those).
