Bad for the mind to treat excerpts like jumps in figure skating: as something you nail or not. That said, I heard NYPhil perform Alpine Symphony and my palms were sweating before all the big parts. I apparently was more nervous than Phil, because he NAILED it...er, I mean he sounded great.

Yeah, he played it on C trumpet and it sounded great!! The last three concerts there have just been amazing! With Bartok Concerto for Orchestra, The Planets and Shostikovich 10, it's been really exciting in Avery Fisher Hall.

I think it's safe to say that Phil Smith, so to speak, "ruled the earth". The ending is lights out too. The brass sound awesome.
