hello all,
Cichowicz once told us a story of a young player who came to see him for lessons when cichowicz was just starting to really put together his whole routine. The guy told cichowicz that all he wanted to do was play loud and high. at first this annoyed cichowicz but then he realized that this would be a good opprotunity to see if his concepts could work for everyone and he made a deal with the guy that he would teach him to play loud and high if he agreed to learn to read music better and other such things.
So he proceeded in teaching him Clarke #2 in the middle range, striving for even sound, smooth notes, good air flow etc. then they just kept moving up one semitone at a time and eventually the guy good play #2 starting on high C and he was satisfied.
The moral of the story being: the same good concepts for whatever range your playing in. they key is to build on a solid mid range and take your time.
anyways, I still think about all the things Cichowicz told me and it always comes down to patience.
