hi there,
Just tonight I felt like I was quite out of shape, so I did 20 pushups, 20 situps. beforehand, I tried buzzing into the mouthpiece, and it was weak, and hard. but afterwards, I tried it, and it was strong and easy.
anyone have any comments? |

cardio workouts make playing easier for me. you should also check out the "science of breath", which is a breathing method based on Yoga. I have a copy of the PDF file... if you want it, email me or private message me. _________________ J. Fowler

As you get in better and better shape, make sure that you don't attempt any tough performances right after a grueling workout. As you increase your fitness level, your cardio recovery time will improve dramatically and your overall aerobic capacity will increase; but you will also be able to push yourself harder and if you really max it out, it is tough to play the trumpet right after on of those workouts. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |

Ah ! Workout is a great thing to do !
My teacher and the other trumpet players in the IPO are in great shape
as I just realized along time ago so I decided to ask my teacher about it in a lesson
we had once.
He said that he didn't start workout so he could play better but just for the good feeling and health, but
he did noticed that playing became physically easier and he suggested me adding workouts to my day.
So I'm doing pushups and situps.
I do pushups every 2 days cause it's not good to do it everyday and I do
situps everyday. I do 4 sets for each. 10 pushups in a set = 40 and 30 situps = 120.
And I get better on this. I hope I'll continue doing it. It's hard to keep doing it all the time.
So far I'm not missing days.

The exercise approach has so many additional benefits to overall health, as well as trumpet playing. If you are healthy and in good physical condition you will do everything better. The primary reason I took up trumpet in the 5th grade was so I could get out of P.E., and little did I know I would end up doing more sit ups, push ups, and chin ups in band than I ever did in P.E.!
Both Maynard and Louis Armstrong were big advocates of swimming laps, and my wife's physical therapist says swimming is the perfect cardio workout. Other good low impact exercises are rowing and biking. |

The BEST exercise for playing trumpet, is playing trumpet. All these other exercises are great for your body. If you feel well in yourself, you will play well. Stay healthy and play well.
