Hi, I am currently working on putting together literature for my senior recital and I am looking for one more piece to complete the list. I was hoping to find a solo that could be described as 'sultry, sensuous, spicy', etc. I was thinking perhaps something with Spanish/Gypsy influence? I would appreciate any suggestions!

See if you can find a version of Malaguena, it is a very cool piece.

Why not look at "Nightsongs" by Richard Peaslee. It alternates between flugel and trumpet, and it has some definite Spanish influences, as well as being just plain cool (and not too difficult!). Hope this helps.

thanks for all of the replies! I will look at all of them. I actually have heard of La Virgen de la Macarena, but never had a chance to play it. Thanks again!

"La Virgen de la Macarena" is a great recital piece. I would also suggest another Mendez piece called "Czardas."

Court of the Crimson as recorded by Doc Severinsen is pretty good, but tough. You can hear a clip of it on the Trumpetstuff website. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |

Another good one that is less well known is Zamba by Allen Vizutti. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |

If you're willing to stretch out beyond trumpet music a bit, a good choice could be "Seite Canciones Populares" by Manuel deFalla. These are art songs, but they adapt well to trumpet and piano. A couple of the songs work very well on flugel, too. You can get creative with mutes as well. Great music! |

Czardas - great fun. Virgen de la Macarena - great fun.
But if you are really after that Spanish Gipsy feel, how about;
Marquina: SPANISH GIPSY DANCE
Instrumentation: tpt. pft. Grade: C
Pub.ref: EE3561
Price: £5.50 (Excluding: VAT at 0%)
Could you get a title more appropriate?
