My sound seems to have a small amount of core to it as compared to many other people's. What meat there is to the sound is pretty diffused, and not very concentrated. From everyone's experience, what horn has a good amount of core to its sound?

Don't take this personally, but could it be that you're not playing in the pitch center and that you're not using air support? I find that when I get lazy, my sound becomes as you describe it. Your mouthpiece selection might also be an important component.

Indeed, that's part of the problem. Through high school I've always been in bands that "can't blow". That tendency has rubbed off somewhat on me, and is becoming much of a bad habit. I'm screwed into fixing that myself, but am trying to compensate for it in any way I can.

have someone else play your trumpet.
if there is a problem with the horn it'll show up when another plays it.
if everyone else has core and you don't on the same horn you might want to look more into mouthpiece and exercises
than buying a new horn.
