I mean really. I do not think anybody here is. I know I am not. I love all four horns I have but I am saving for a new cornet, dreaming of a new C and by the time I have those, who knows what I'll want??? _________________ Yamaha 6345S Bb Trumpet

I just had this conversation with trumplyr a couple of days ago
regarding mouthpieces.
It's the curse of being a trumpeter. There will ALWAYS be
something better. All of us are constantly looking whether we
need to or not. I love the horns I have but I'm of the belief that
there will always be something different if not better and I'm
more than willing (and happy) to try them.

I'm totally satisfied with my Selmer Paris Concept TT Bb. I suspect there are a good number of others here that are really happy with their horns. _________________ Schilke '60 B1 -- 229 Bach-C/19-350 Blackburn -- Lawler TL Cornet -- Conn V1 Flugel -- Stomvi Master Bb/A/G picc -- GR mpcs

The trombonist side of me is happy with the trombone and mouthpiece I have now (other than the fact that I want to get my mpc gold plated)... The trumpet side of me is wanting a few more mouthpieces and a nicer trumpet though. Fortunately, my trumpet side isn't telling me I need a new trombone. Unfortunately, my trombone side isn't telling me I don't need a new trumpet.

I am convinced that there is no horn made TODAY that I would choose over my Schilke B1L.
There might be horns out there that play great and are made as well but I believe there is nothing out there so much better that I would switch. _________________ Schilke B1L / GRe65M/e65S

I love my new Strad 72/25LR (or I wouldn't have bought it!). See the first post in the "Now I'm a believer" thread. However, I would have to second trombapaul2's thoughts on "keeping an open mind" on other horns. At any rate, that's how I like to think about it, keeping an open mind!
In response to musicmork, if we had to marry our trumpets, many or most of us would be polygamists with wandering eyes |

I think trumpet and trombone players are unique in this way. When you figure how much a bassoon or a tuba costs, those players ARE married to their instruments. The way a brass horn is set up makes a big difference and hence we have a lot to talk about and a lot to think about ... and play on!
And trumpets and bones have some of the same "factors." They have a particular sound, and often have to come in after resting for many bars and sound like a million bucks. The horn is cold, the mouthpiece maybe warm, maybe not. The sound can change SO much by changing alloys or mouthpieces.
I talked to a saxophone player who has $5000 in his sax. No reason not to play it until he dies. A different sax is going to make only a minor difference. But with trumpets (and to a lessor extend bones) the sound is very different with slight changes in the setup.
So we look and play and look and play and buy and sell. Some are happy with their equipment. Some are gearheads. But isn't it great there are so many fantastic horns to choose from -- and even somewhere near 2000 mouthpiece (currently in production)? Choices, trials -- and experimentation.
Bottom line though, a horn is great and there is nothing like making a step up. But too many players figure a horn makes the player better. It can help a player. But practice, practice, practice is the only way to Carnegie Hall!

Hi,
I think Jim's onto something. I'm happy with my horns.
Does that mean I won't be seduced by something tomorrow..NO!!
One of the reasons I'm fairly settled is that both are so different. The Taylor appeals to the sound in my head but when I think I need to sound different the Kanstul comes out. It also relieves the 'should I be playing something more mainstream' syndrome that sometimes comes with playing more unusual instruments. For $1000 that's a very cheap alternative for so much flexibility. I know I'm lucky to be able to be in that position...
Just my take.
Regards
Trevor |

I am very happy with my main instruments (Kanstul 1500 and a Burbank Flugel). I am a trumpet player though and sometimes go through that oft talked about malady - trumpet envy. I have been thinking about a medium bore instrument and will probably wind up with a vintage Martin pretty soon.
I recently found out my flugel is a bit more unique than what I had originally thought. It is only 1 of 15 horns produced.
Somehow I don't think you are going to find many Kanstul owners saying that they are not happy with their instruments. _________________ Earl

I haven't tried any of the exotic "botique" (or however we're calling them these days) horns, but I am more than content with my Vintage One.
Now, should the offer come along to try a vintage Mt. Vernon... |

Up until a month ago, I played only on my Eclipse. Over the past month I have purchased some Olds trumpets and have been playing them as well. Will I give up my Eclipse? You would have to pry it from my cold dead hands! I will however use the different Olds I have bought for different situations. Adding to an arsenal does not mean a person is unhappy with their current horn. It just means that different jobs call for different horns sometimes. If you were playing in a big band section and the other guys were all playing Eclipses, would you pull out your (insert brand) or would you pull out your Eclipse? You are going to pull out the Eclipse so that the section blends even better. By the way, I like all my horns because they allow me to make music. _________________ Mike

I'm delighted with My Haagston trumpet. I haven't tried anything else that comes close to it yet. I'm delighted with the V1 Flugel, nothing tops that either. BUT! It tried the Getzen Custom 3850 cornet and it keeps coming back to haunt me, even though I really like the Challenger. Hmmmm! _________________ Haagston US3 Bb Trumpet

Delighted with the two I play the most (Bb/C). Flip Oakes is putting out a QUALITY horn that is a pleasure to play. I was formerly a Bach die-hard, but I have changed my tune (no pun intended!)
Maybe a WT fluegel down the road...um Flip-have you thought about picc trumpets yet?
