Fellow Trumpeters,
Doc's new trumpet, the "Destino" is now available through his website http://www.docseverinsen.com. Be sure to check it out and also if you plan on attending the ITG, this would be a great opportunity to try the horn and meet Doc in person!

the instrument looks good.
I'd suggest more photos and larger sharper photos. _________________ 1946 Martin Committee, Bach 5V |

I tested the horn when it still was a prototype. It's a nice horn and very easy to play. It's more of a lightweight instrument, for me it has not enough "body" to the sound. You notice that playing in a section, because I didn't hear myself enough. But as I said it's a very good trumpet. _________________ www.erikveldkamp.com |

I agree about the pictures. More information on the horn's specs would also be helpful-a medium large bore can be several sizes depending on the manufacturer.
I saw Doc play a Destino the other night and it is a beautiful looking horn. It sounded great, too, although Doc would sound good on a hosaphone. |

As far as "specs", they can be confusing on this horn. Since it is made in Germany, the measurements are metric rather than what we are used to.
Byron Autry told me the bore size is around .460-.461, but again, don't let that be a deterrent. There is more to how a horn feels and blows than what bore size it is. The bell flare is most similar to a Bach 37, and it is a thinner bell than a standard Bach.
Byron also told me this horn is put together like the finest Swiss watch. Hard to find that level of craftsmanship these days.
Also, Doc is not in this project to make money. If you knew what each horn was costing him, you would know the price is very reasonable. He has to add in shipping from Germany, plus taxes and duties. ANd he includes shipping in the price of the horn.
The best bet is to try one, either at ITG, or wait until Doc comes to your city. He does have a 10 day trial period, which is a great way to go too.
Believe me, when I get the $$, I will have one.

There are some photos of the horn and pics of Doc playing the horn on the way to me. When I get them, they will go on the website right away. As far as bore size, yes it is tough to determine by reading specs, how a horn blows. For instance, the Vintage One has one bore size, yet three different leadpipe venturis. One makes the horn blow tight, the next more open, and the largest makes the horn blow very open. I have not yet played the Destino so I can't offer any more info. If you can, be certain to catch Doc at the ITG.

Brian,
I guess it is not a secret that many of Doc's previous horn ventures (i.e. Belcanto) has been to recreate a Bach Strad. This seems like a totally different departure for him. It will be an interesting horn to play. There are many fine horns out there but very few that would make you say wow! I am sure Doc will make sure each one plays great before he sells it.

I don't dispute that bore size is but one factor in the blow of a horn. Nevertheless, it is a factor and is something people are interested in. The more information, the better, I always say. As mentioned previously, I saw Doc in concert last week and he sounded great on the Destino. |

I played on a Belcanto and on the new Destino, but they don't come close to a good Bach Mt.Vernon. They are both fine horns though but I don't think Doc is/was searching for a Bachlike horn. If that was the case he just could have bought one ! I would still prefer my Bachs but that a matter of taste. _________________ www.erikveldkamp.com |

Fellow trumpeters,
Check out the Testimonials on the Destino Trumpet at http://www.docseverinsen.com. Personally I am waiting to try the horn at the ITG, but so far all the feedback is very good. There are a couple of new photos on the site as well. Thanks! Bri

New photos of Doc and the Destino Trumpet are now on the Doc Website. The photographer was Tony Scodwell, one of our trumpet playing brothers. Check the pics out at http://www.docseverinsen.com. Thanks!
