I would like to gold plate my two new Xeno's. I have performed many searches on TH and see that most people go to Anderson's, Kanstul, or Trumpetchops.

Has anyone gone through these companies and had a worthwhile experience? Would you recommend one over the others or eliminate one from consideration?

These horns are brand new and would not require "prep" work.

Trumpetchops seems to be the best price, but I would rather pay more if I'm getting a better product. Thanks for your input.

Of course, when I plate, I will give a review and feedback to TH.

I dont know about the other two, but Anderson has proven to be a good route to go. I wouldnt go with the "cheapest" though they should be similar..depends on the price of gold at the time...so if they are similar go with what others have been happy with.

I just received a Besson Brevette that I had Kanstul refinish in lacquer... beautiful job. I have also had three trumpets worked on at Anderson's and there work was beautiful as well. I have not had gold plating done, but thought that this report would at least confirm the quality of their work in other areas.

Thanks for the replies so far. I talked to steve at drvalve.com and he goes through andersons and recommends them. I've tried to contact trumpetchops and kanstul, haven't heard back yet.

Try John Lynch in FL. Great work, reasonable prices good turn around. He did my C trumpet and it is terrific.

If there is one finger print on it, it requires some prep work. I have had two horns 24 carat gold plated in the past 3 years. One, by a company in RI and recently, by Anderson in Elkhart, IN. The RI job was starting to wear through and show the underlying silver plate in a few places when I sold the horn. Roy Lawler does a great job of prepping and that is a very important part of the job.

I've been thinking about having my Schilke gold plated, will the Schilke shop do a brushed golf finish?

Hi,
I have heard that Lee Adams has returned to the plating business and does very good work. You can visit his web page and get more information at http://www.trumpetchops.com . There are some very nice pictures of examples of plating jobs he has done.

Thanks,
Robert

Edit- after reading your post again, I have not had a direct plating experience from TrumpetChops, but I do remember reading posts by people who had had plating done there. Try doing a search in TrumpetHerald and at TrumpetMaster and sending private messages to those people who have had a plating job by Lee.

Sorry I could not be of more help

Robert, it's interesting that you mention Lee Adams because I just mailed my Warburton mpcs to him this morning, but I didn't even realize that he did horn gold plating also. I've been in touch with Lee so I'm going to ask him about plating my Schilke also. Thanks for the reminder.

Allen,

It would be a lot easier for you if Lee can do the plating of your Schilke. He did some spot silvering on a horn I had and it came out very nice.

I emailed Lee 2-3 weeks ago regarding Callet horns and never received a reply. Maybe he's doing so well with the plating he doesn't need the business?
