Looks like a lot of work went into this beginner's horn. I truly do wonder how it plays, but I'm not shelling out that kind of money just to find out.

Has anyone played on one of Jason's modifications?

Is it just me, or does it have a Herman Munster’ish kinda’ look to it?

C'mon! Won't someone do us all a favor, and shell out for this and then tell the rest of us how it plays? It's only $699! LOL.

Herman Munsterish? As in he's trying to scare us, but only comes across as goofy and decidedly UNdangerous? Then I'd have to agree.

One more thought here: I think we should save the term "Monettish" for Taylors, Courtois EVII's and perhaps a few other truly heavy weight horns. Whether you love Monette horns or hate them, a "Monettish Yamaha" is a contradiction in terms.

Everytime I see that I think of the Wynton Marcelles mock up and the Bling Bling.

That was funny as heck/

It would be interesting to see how it plays but not at that price. Why is he selling it and did it cost $1,800 to do the modifications? Why??? Go buy a used Taylor! I have seen them from around $1,600 to around $2,000.

Stop ragging on this guy. It's not funny anymore.

None of you guys have played his horns. I admit they look pretty funny but you don't know anything about them. The first keyed trumpet looked pretty funny and that's how we're all here today. Besides, do you think he'd still be making them after all this time if they weren't any good? Don't you think that's a lot of time and effort to sink into a poor product or a scam?

Everytime one of his horns comes up on ebay someone posts the link and says how hard they laughed about it. It's not that funny and it's really boring now.

I have a sense of humor. Keep the jokes coming!

I play Monette equipment and I enjoy reading the flames about Dave's designs, prices, etc. Doesn't bother me at all.

Would you like to hear some good jokes about Canadians?

I may have read over it, but I didn't see what type of Yamaha it was before the modification. Looking at the 3rd valve slide ring makes me think that it could be student or intermmediate model. Maybe I am just stereo-typing the adjustable ring.
I couldn't live with myself for paying $1800 to supe up a student horn.

By the way, if you weren't joking, Wynton's last name is spelled "Marsalis"

Brad ... I am truly sorry you are taking this so personally. Have you played one of Jason's modifications by chance? The way it looks, I don't feel anyone has yet. Someone mentioned a while back that they were going to have a tuning slide modified by him, but I don't think he posted his findings on it.

When it comes down to it, I think the baffling question on everyone's mind is, "Why put all this effort into a student horn?".

You just beat me Zuesfan .... the title of the auction indicates a 2320 ... an older Yamaha student horn.

I read that too. I was interested in it, so I asked Jason if he'd stick some bracing on a tuning slide of mine (my backup horn). This was back in October, November at the latest. He said he would need until April to finish the work and it would cost at least $200. I then contacted Leigh of Eclipse Trumpet fame. He said he'd get it back to me within two weeks of my shipping it, and half the cost. I just haven't gotten around to shipping it yet.

I'm not surprised we haven't heard back about the modified slide yet. It probably hasn't been modified.

Wow!!! $200 just to modify a slide? Does it automatically let the spit out for you? He sounds pretty proud of his work for those kinds of prices. I might do some digging in the forum to find where I read that and contact that member to see if he might post for us.

I agree with the Herman Munster’ish reference. More bracings don't seem to do it justice. I'd rather have a trumpet that plays well and looks like crap than one that looks good and plays like crap. If Herman Munster played trumpet he would probably play this horn.
